beirstadt bake - rocky mountain national parkWe decided to take one last trek in Rocky Mountain National Park the morning of the day we were leaving for home, We chose the short hike to Bierstadt Lake because it fit our timeframe perfectly. When we awoke the next morning, we were surprised to find it had snowed overnight (this was September), and there was about four inches of light, fluffy snow covering everything. Not to be deterred, we drove to the trailhead, put on our packs and started out. It was grey and overcast when we left, but soon the clouds gave way to a classic sunny, blue sky Colorado morning. The views were amazing as you can see - the snow gave the landscape a completely different look than we had experienced the previous four days.
night light - tawas point lighthouseSunset photograph of the Tawas Point Lighthouse located near the northern entrance to Saginaw Bay, just off Tawas Bay in Lake Huron. The first lighthouse at this location (know then as Ottawa Point) was a put in service in 1853 as a rubble stone tower, with a cast iron light room and a fixed white light. The current tower was completed and began operation in 1877. This 67 foot brick and masonry structure experienced a number of modifications, upgrades and changes through the years and is still in operation today, using the original Fresnel Lens installed in first lighthouse (and subsequently moved to the new tower) in 1856. This is not only a interesting Great Lakes historical building, but also a great place to view amazing sunrises over Lake Huron and/or beautiful sunsets over Tawas Bay. Pay a visit if you are in the area.
